Thank You, Dear Community Members, for 31 Wonderful Years!
On the evening of Sunday, November 5th, the Council commemorated 31 years dedicated to uniting and uplifting the Muslim community in Chicago. Together Towards Tomorrow focused on CIOGC’s achievements and diligent work over the past year, the acknowledgment of accomplished members within the Muslim community, and discussions about the Council’s plans for the Muslim community. Esteemed guests, including Representative Nabeela Syed, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinckle, Ustadh Ubydullah Evans, and Dr. Alia Ammar, the Emcee for the dinner. These guests joined other respected community members, interfaith partners, and civic partners.
The Council’s Chairman, Dr. Abdulghany Hamadeh, presented the annual Muslim Achiever Award, recognizing Muslim Americans in the community who have excelled in their respective professions. This year the awards were earned by healthcare activist Arshia Wajid, MBA, MPH, and Dr. Hytham Almasri, a board-certified hematologist and the founder and CEO of Hematogenix. These individuals not only demonstrated significant achievements in their fields but also utilized their careers to make a positive impact on others.
Sheikh Kifah Mustapha of the Prayer Center of Orland Park led the fundraising portion of the night. Sponsors and guests graciously donated, allowing the Council to meet its goals.
This year the Council established an award to give special recognition to that member organization that has distinguished itself as the most generous Muslim institution financially supporting humanitarian and social justice appeals. Dr. Hamadeh presented the Most Charitable Mosque award to the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview, Illinois. Over the last year, the Mosque Foundation has contributed over $3,000,000 to various relief organizations and causes.
The evening’s presentations included remarks shared by three students who participated in the Council’s Page internship program. These students, Harris Khan, Mayse Mustapha, and William Asfour, expressed the impact of their participation in the civic engagement activities that took place during Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD).
The Council wishes to extend its thanks to everyone who attended and to those who have continually supported CIOGC. Here is to 31 years of unity, with hopes for many more, God-willing!
