Explosion reported in Indian capital New Delhi

A blast occurred on Thursday in Delhi’s Prashant Vihar area while former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was holding a press conference. The explosion, which took place around 11:48 AM (IST), left one person with minor injuries.

According to Indian media, Delhi Fire Service confirmed the incident and dispatched fire tenders to the site immediately.

Authorities have stated that the explosion was a low-intensity blast, similar to an incident in October 2024 near a CRPF school in the same area. That explosion had been attributed to a discarded cigarette, although this latest incident is still under investigation.

Sources from Delhi Police noted that the blast could have been linked to previous attempts to send a message to government authorities, though no definitive conclusions have been reached yet.

During his press conference, Arvind Kejriwal had claimed that Delhi was “the most unsafe city in the world,” which coincided with the explosion. Police are continuing their investigations, and further details are awaited.
